Dedication & Dr. Bates History: Ophthalmologist William H. Bates worked his entire life treating people successfully with Natural Vision Improvement.
When he cured the eyes, vision of many patients and other doctors in the hospital where he worked with natural treatments, without use of eyeglasses, surgery, drugs and proved his method is fact and that some of the old theories of eye function were incorrect, only theories, the doctors, surgeons that preferred to sell eyeglasses, surgery, drugs expelled him. Dr. Bates then opened his own office, a Clinic in Harlem, New York City. He treated thousands of people by natural methods, including many of the African Americans and other people that had little money, living in Harlem. His treatments were successful. He cured people of all ages, young and old. The Bates Method is so simple and effective that many of his cured patients, ‘often children’ then went on to cure their parents, teachers and other children of defective vision.      The Optical and Medical Industry/Association and most eye doctors, opticians have hidden Dr. Bates magazines, books, articles on Natural Vision Improvement from the public for over 100 years because: The writings are proof that Natural Vision (Eyesight) Improvement works, produces clear vision, healthy eyes, it teaches people how to obtain clear vision on their own and prevents the need for eyeglasses, contact lenses, sunglasses, eye surgery and drugs. After Dr. Bates death, the Optical Industry, Medical doctors, Association destroyed Dr. Bates magazines, books, articles, removed them from libraries, schools, colleges, bookstores in an attempt to hide the truth about Natural Vision Improvement from the public. They bribed dishonest politicians, judges to pass laws preventing the public from teaching Natural Vision Improvement.   Ophthalmology, Optometry, Optician Colleges hid it, refused to teach it and Eye Doctors were taught to ignore the Bates Method. Honest eye doctors were afraid to teach it, were told that they would lose their medical license if they used it in their practice. (See case of Margaret Corbett and Aldous Huxley, New York City, USA.) The Optical, Medical Industry prefers to sell eyeglasses, dangerous cornea laser eye surgery, cataract surgery, other eye operations and drugs. They continue to suppress the Bates Method. Dishonest Eye Doctors prescribe stronger and stronger eyeglass lenses, bifocals, sunglasses knowing that this increases vision impairment, dependency on stronger eyeglasses and leads to development of cataracts and thousands of dollars profit from cataract surgery. Senior citizens are their main victim, ‘customer’, abused by their doctors, told to wait for surgery until the cataract grows large enough as the doctor sells stronger eyeglass lenses, bifocals… knowing that this will increase, speed the growth, development of the cataract.

Due to the truth about Natural Medicine becoming available to the modern public, Dr. Bates work has been recovered from individual owners and re-published. Many modern Ophthalmologists, Optometrists are now learning, teaching the Bates Method. A honest eye doctor prefers to get the patient to stop use of eyeglasses, will not prescribe strong eyeglasses, bifocals, sunglasses.
He/she teaches the patient how to reverse, prevent unclear vision, cataracts.

The Original Better Eyesight Magazine contains a few mis-prints and a few treatments that are no longer taught the old way to Natural Vision Improvement students by teachers. They have been changed, improved and new treatments/activities added. Some teachers prefer the old methods only. Example of old methods that have been changed; Open Eyed Sunning and reading by looking only along, under the white spaces of a sentence are no longer practiced. New improved versions are taught. Reading along the white spaces was mis-interpreted by some Bates students; Dr. Bates explained that 'the white spaces are used only to relax the eyes, mind, improve the memory and imagination. Then, when reading; the person looks directly at the print. The Sunglass is used only in special cases of near or complete blindness by a Bates Method experienced Ophthalmologist if other methods fail. It can burn the eye when used incorrect and, because it is a glass, it blocks full spectrum light resulting in partial spectrum, unbalanced light emitting from the glass. The light does not go into the eyes pupil but it still must not be overused. Partial spectrum light in unhealthy. Pure full spectrum sunlight, not passing through glass is best, healthy for the eyes, body. Some people, cultures still practice open eyed sunning but in a specific, safe way, brief time, always with eye movement, good health, relaxation; Eyes, head continually move, eyes shifting to the sky near the left, right, top, bottom of the sun and they face the sun for a brief time. Other directions are applied for safety. Due to the ozone layer depletion it is controversial. In later editions of Better Eyesight Magazine and books, Dr. Bates lists these changes, improvements. Dr. Bates himself stated that the Bates Method is continually being improved. As he treated thousands of patients over the years the Bates Method was perfected. Bates Teachers state they learn much from their students, each student being an individual and various treatments being successful for each condition, state of mind, body, eyes and personality.
