The
Correct Vision Habits Card Lists the Main Natural Eye-Vision Functions, 'Habits' to
Practice on the Right Side of the Card
Practice these activities on close, middle and far objects. Switching on the three E's (pop-up sections) improves close
and reading vision.
Also practice switching on close and distant objects to improve distant vision.
Use one pop-up section (#1 or 3) for a close object when switching close
and far. Place the section at various
close distances. Switch to a object
in the distance beyond the section. Then back to the section, then to
the far again, then close, far... The sections are placed at eye level, between the left
and right eyes in the center of the visual field.
The distant object is also in the central field, in line with the
pop-up section.
When
looking at a E on a section or a distant object; remember to
shift part to part on the object the eyes are looking
at. Try shifting point to point for perfect
central-fixation.
Blink and relax.
This is the same activity described for switching on the 3
pens in a row in a previous chapter. An alternative is; three colored
toothpicks placed upright 1, 3, 6... inches apart, placed in foam, cardboard
for practicing switching at 3 different close reading distances. Like
miniature pens for perfect central-fixation, tiny shifting
(centralizing) practice. Be
careful, do not place toothpicks near the eyes. Keep the pointed ends
down into the foam.
The Correct Vision Habits card lists the
main correct, normal eye functions
‘Habits’ to practice on the right side of the card. Practice these
activities on close and far objects.
Cut the card along the dashed
lines. Then cut along on the dashed lines on the 3 pop-up sections.
Bend the sections upright as shown in the picture. Align them in a
straight line. Tape or paste the card onto a piece of cardboard.
Place the card on a table with the E’s on the 3 sections at eye
level, between the left and right eyes, in the
center of the visual field. The 3
sections are about 1-2 inches apart depending on the size of the
printed card. Practice with different size cards, spacing of the
sections. Different spacing improves convergence, divergence,
accommodation, un-accommodation, visual clarity at a variety of close
and reading distances.
Start with the card at a comfortable
distance from the eyes; E #1 at 1-3 feet or less. Practice until all
E’s are clear at all close and reading distances, up to 6, 5, 4, 3,
2, 1 inches and even žth inch. from the eyes.
Switching and Shifting on the Three
E's (‘Pop-Up’ Sections) Improves Close Vision, Reading Vision and Far
Vision.

+ Shift part to part (point
to point) on E #1 - closest E to the eyes.
(point to point=shifting tiny part to tiny part for fine detailed
central-fixation) + Switch to E # 3 - farthest E from the eyes. -
Shift part to part (point to point) on E #3. + Switch back to E
#1. - Shift part to part (point to point) in E #1. + Switch to E
#3 again, shift on it. Repeat the steps; #1, #3, #1, #3… + Switch
back and forth to E #2 at the middle distance, to and from E #1 and
#3. Switch back and forth on the 3
E's in any order. Shift part to
part on each E the eyes switch to-look at, one E at a time. Blink
and relax. Practice central-fixation;
seeing one small part of an E darkest black and clearest at a time in
the center of the visual field as the eyes, central field
moves from part to part on the E. Each part the eyes look at will be
darkest black and clearest. Even if your eyes, 'visual attention' is
on that part for only a second; during that time, that part is
clearest. (See Shifting, Central-Fixation and Eyecharts Chapters.)
Practice all steps on the right side of the card; Switching,
Shifting, Central-Fixation, Tracing, Head/Face Movement with the
Eyes, Oppositional Movement, Memory, Imagination, Relaxation,
Breathing, Blink…
Practice
with;
+ Both eyes together.
+ One eye at a time. + If vision is less clear in one eye,
practice extra time with that eye. +Then a bit again with the
clearer vision eye. + End with both eyes together again.
(See video) Practice until the vision is
perfect, equal in the left and right eyes at all close and reading
distances and far distances.
E’s are placed between the left and right eyes, at eye level (center
of the visual field) when using both eyes together and when using one
eye at a time. (When using one eye; do not
move the E to the outer sides, areas of the eyes, face or in front of
one eye. Keep it between the left and right eyes. Use an
eyepatch over the eye not in use and keep the eye open under the
patch when the eye in use is open. The
body, neck, head, eyes are relaxed. Move the head/face with the eyes,
eye in the same direction. Avoid effort. Relax. Allow movement. Keep
the head, neck relaxed.

THUMB ON FINGERTIP MOVEMENT - From Dr. Bates'
Better Eyesight Magazine;
As the movement of the thumb on the
stationary finger relaxes the mind, the mind is brought to a positive
state. The mind drifts away from negative stressful thoughts and
moves into positive happy thoughts, emotions.
Counting odd numbers when the thumb moves in one direction, then even
numbers for the opposite direction also relaxes the mind, eyes. It
can immediately take the mind off any worry, negative thought.

The Thumb Movement
by Dr. William H. Bates
Rest the hand against an immovable surface.
Place the ball of the thumb lightly in contact with the forefinger. Now
move the end of the thumb in a circle of about one-quarter of an inch in
diameter. When the thumb moves in one direction, the forefinger should
appear to move in the opposite direction, although in reality it is
stationary. In the practice of the universal swing, everything is
imagined to be moving in the same direction, except the eyes. With the
aid of the thumb movement, however, one can imagine the spine and the
head moving opposite to the direction of motion of the thumb, while the
eyes, being fastened to the head, also move with the head and hand.
While watching the movement of the thumb, remember imperfect sight. At
once, the thumb movement becomes irregular or may stop altogether.
Demonstrate that any effort, no matter how slight, to see, remember or
imagine, interferes with the movement of the thumb. The thumb is so
sensitive to an effort or strain that the slightest effort is at once
recorded by the motion. While watching the movement of the thumb,
remember perfect sight. Notice that the movement of the thumb is slow,
short, continuous, and restful - with relaxation of all parts of the
body. Many patients have been successfully treated for pain, fatigue,
and dizziness with the help of the thumb movement, after other treatment
had failed. Some patients with severe pain complain that when they forget
to practice the movement of the thumb, the pain comes back. Not only
have patients suffering from pain and symptoms of fatigue been relieved,
but an equal number have been relieved of imperfect sight by the correct
practice of the thumb movement. Thumb movement done in various
directions and with the left and right hands also activates, integrates
the left and right brain hemispheres and eye movement, shifting.
